New Fairies

I've finally gotten around to photographing two new(ish) fairies - These two are in different displays, however!

Caged Fairies

Here are a couple more of the mummified fairies that Melia and I have done - someone forgot to feed these poor creatures, and left them in a cage!

Framed Fairies

Mummified Fairy Tableu

Part of the fun of creating these fairies is all the different ways that they can be displayed.  Not only is each fairy positioned differently, the various ways of displaying them hint at individual back stories for each.  The following are pictures of a full tableau:

A fairy tableau.

Fairy Jar

Fairy Jar
Akin to a 'bug jar', these fairies were the commercially available fairies of the day.  The catch is, to keep them alive, one must be constantly feeding them!

We're not sure if some little girl left the jar out in the cold, forgot to feed her fairy, or the food just got too expensive.....either way, the fairy is preserved in its original jar.

The labels are the same found over on this post, only applied directly to the bottle.  The jar lid is aged, and has 'air holes' for the poor little guy!

Mummified Fairies - The Real Deal

My first attempt at mummified fairies was far more gruesome than I had intended, so I switched up methods, and hit upon a method that evokes more of a 'dried leaf', than 'decomposing flesh'.  Kinda gross, but there it is!

What one can do with a mummified fairy? How about starting your very own Cabinet of Curiosities, or Wonder Cabinet?

Fairy and Fairy Accessories

I'v channeled Hank Hill and have made some Fairies and Fairy Accessories to go along with the array of mummified fairies.  (Keep watching for that post coming up soon!)

My inner graphic designer has come out to play with the fairy labels, and I've had a ton of fun putting together what looks to me like a reasonably passable early 20th century advertisement!

Fairy Berries
As is warned on the label, fairies must be fed at least two bottles of fairy nectar a day....I figured as with most 'pets' there ought to be treats!  Thus, "Fairy Berries"!

Mummified Fairy

Do you remember seeing this?  Or any of the number of 'mummified fairies' that followed?

Well, I've had mummified fairy on the brain for quite some time, and have had most of the supplies to do one for over a year (including a brand new heat gun!)

Well, this week was the week.  The week I would finally, finally make my own mummified fairy!
